What Amazon sellers actually need from accounting software, and an honest look at the main options for UK sellers.
Last updated: 18 October 2026
Short answer: the best setup for most Amazon sellers is a cloud accounting ledger — usually Xero or QuickBooks Online — plus a settlement connector that posts Amazon's payouts into it in detail. For UK sellers on Xero who care most about getting VAT right at a low price, that connector is TrueBooks. If you need several ledgers or many sales channels, A2X or Link My Books are broader choices.
These connectors are often called Amazon integration middleware: software that sits between Seller Central and your general ledger. They work at settlement level rather than order level — importing each Amazon statement and breaking it into structured revenue, fee and tax entries — because Amazon pays in net settlements that group sales, refunds, FBA fees and taxes together. Mapping every individual transaction straight into a ledger instead produces clutter and VAT discrepancies.
The tools differ in emphasis. A2X is settlement-first and broad, covering several ledgers and channels. Link My Books is VAT-first, built around UK VAT compliance and summarised invoices that match payouts. TrueBooks is Xero-and-UK-VAT-first: a single ledger and a single channel, with UK tax codes, Marketplace Facilitator VAT and the August 2024 Amazon billing-entity change applied automatically, priced in pounds. Taxomate competes on price across Xero, QuickBooks Online and Wave.
Amazon doesn't pay you order by order. Every 14 days or so it sends one payout, after taking off its fees, advertising, refunds and sometimes VAT. Your bank feed only sees that payout. Amazon accounting software solves this in two layers:
Finaloop is the exception: it combines the two and adds human bookkeepers, which makes it a service rather than a tool.
| Tool | Ledgers | Channels | Starting price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TrueBooks | Xero | Amazon (all marketplaces) | £9.99/mo + VAT | UK Amazon sellers on Xero who want precise UK VAT at a low GBP price |
| A2X | Xero, QuickBooks Online, Sage, NetSuite | Amazon plus several others | ~$29/mo | Sellers or firms needing several ledgers or many sales channels |
| Link My Books | Xero, QuickBooks Online | Amazon, eBay, Shopify, Etsy, TikTok Shop, Walmart, WooCommerce | ~£15/mo | Multi-channel sellers on Xero or QuickBooks Online |
| Taxomate | Xero, QuickBooks Online, Wave | Amazon, Shopify and others | ~$14/mo | Budget-conscious sellers, including those on Wave |
| Finaloop | Its own ledger (all-in-one) | Amazon, Shopify, Walmart, TikTok Shop and others | Service pricing, higher | US brands wanting done-for-you bookkeeping rather than software |

A UK-built connector focused only on Amazon and Xero. It posts one invoice per settlement that reconciles to the penny, handles Marketplace Facilitator VAT and the August 2024 billing change, and gives a VAT audit view by HMRC box. Priced in pounds from £9.99/month with a 30-day free trial and a built-in migration from other tools. It doesn't support QuickBooks or non-Amazon channels yet. See the Amazon Xero integration.
The longest-established connector, well regarded by accountants, with the widest ledger support. It costs more than the others at most volumes and bills in US dollars. TrueBooks vs A2X.
A popular connector with broad channel support into Xero and QuickBooks Online and strong UK VAT handling. A good fit if you sell on several marketplaces. TrueBooks vs Link My Books.
A lower-cost connector that also supports Wave. Its plans can upgrade automatically if you go over your order limit, so check how that affects your bill.
A done-for-you bookkeeping service for ecommerce brands, aimed at US businesses using US accounting standards. It replaces your ledger rather than connecting to Xero, so it suits brands that want to hand bookkeeping off entirely. TrueBooks vs Finaloop.

It is the layer between Amazon Seller Central and your accounting ledger. Amazon pays in net settlements that bundle sales, refunds, FBA fees, advertising and tax into one deposit, so posting individual transactions into a ledger creates clutter and VAT errors. Middleware reads the settlement report and posts summarised, correctly coded entries that reconcile to the deposit. The main tools in this category are TrueBooks, A2X, Link My Books and Taxomate.
TrueBooks, A2X, Link My Books and Taxomate all connect Amazon to Xero. TrueBooks is Xero-only and built around UK VAT; A2X also supports QuickBooks Online, Sage and NetSuite; Link My Books supports Xero and QuickBooks Online across several sales channels; Taxomate adds Wave. Xero itself has no built-in Amazon settlement integration.
TrueBooks, Link My Books and Taxomate are the main A2X alternatives for Amazon sellers. TrueBooks is the closest fit for a UK seller on Xero who wants UK VAT handled precisely at a lower price; Link My Books suits multi-channel sellers; Taxomate is the budget option. Finaloop is an alternative in a different sense — it replaces the software-plus-ledger setup with a done-for-you bookkeeping service.
You need two things: an accounting ledger such as Xero or QuickBooks Online, and a settlement connector that turns Amazon's payouts into detailed entries in that ledger. Ledgers on their own only see the lump-sum deposit Amazon pays you, not the sales, fees and VAT inside it.
Both work well. In the UK, Xero is the more common choice among ecommerce accountants and supports Making Tax Digital VAT filing. Pick the one your accountant prefers, then choose a connector that supports it — TrueBooks is Xero-only; A2X, Link My Books and Taxomate support both.
For a UK seller, TrueBooks starts at £9.99/month + VAT for up to 200 orders and Taxomate's published plans start from about $14/month. Link My Books starts at about £15/month, while A2X starts higher (around $29/month). Always compare at your actual monthly order volume, because all of them price by orders.
At very low volumes, yes — but each settlement report has hundreds of lines and the UK VAT rules (Marketplace Facilitator VAT, the August 2024 Amazon billing change) are easy to get wrong by hand. Most sellers switch to a connector once they have more than a handful of orders a week.
